ChoiceLIVE Elevates Governors Island Gala

On Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, ChoiceLIVE helped to produce the Governors Island Gala.
What is Governors Island?
Governors island is an eight minute ferry ride from Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn waterfront. If you’re not a local, you might consider this 172-acre island, located in the heart of New York Harbor to be New York’s best kept secret. What was initially an abandoned former military base, has become a year-round destination for recreation, culture and innovation.
On the island, you’ll find dozens of historic buildings, an award-winning park, a day spa, food courts (including a brewery) and the headquarters for non-profits and organizations revolving around preservation of the land, the Harbor and the arts. “The Hills,” considered to be “New York City’s Newest Landmark,” offers a never before seen, incredible view of The Statue of Liberty.
What is The Friends of Governors Island Gala?
The Friends of Governors Island Gala is a fundraising event for Governors Island. Tickets ranged from $500 to $50,000 dollars and they ended up raising $727,300 to ensure the Island’s continued growth and accessibility as a vibrant public resource.
At the event, they had craft cocktails and local brews, freshly shucked oysters, live jazz by Michael Arenella & his Dreamland Orchestra, campfire s’mores, as well as a selection of gourmet bites from the Island’s beloved eateries.
How did ChoiceLIVE help?
Audio
Michael Arenella & his Dreamland Orchestra was hired to entertain for the night, and ChoiceLIVE was happy to make sure they were heard. We provided a JBL VRX line array system on both sides of the stage.
Our Shure Wireless Microphones were crucial for speeches and demonstrations. All signals were run through our Midas console.
Video
It’s no secret, we’re known for our expertise in video. We were happy to provide one of our 8mm 8’x13’ Mobile LED units to display pre-recorded videos which aided in presentations taking place at the event.
Lighting
We provided lighting on the stage, which is import but relatively standard. We also provided cantina-style area lighting to set the vibe for the night. In accordance with their emergency plan, we also supported them by providing mobile lighting towers.
Our power generators were a less flashy, but crucial part of making sure the event could take place without interruptions.
